What Is Consciousness? RE: Thursday 1/29/2026 Zoom Conversation

Hi friends,

As we prepare to gather this Thursday, I wanted to share this video that poses the question, "What is consciousness?" As you can see, this is not a Unity video because I wanted to invite people contemplate the question with thinking there is a right Unity answer. Perhaps the best question is "How do you experience consciousness?" One of the ways that I experience consciousness is as the witness of whatever I am participating in.

For example, as I am typing this, I get the sense of witnessing myself creating this post. Who is the "me" that is witnessing me create this post? To me that is consciousness expressing itself in action. Now this may seem a little confusing. But as I contemplate consciousness, I feel the sense of wonder that is curious about the distinctions between those aspects of "me' that could be considered my identity--my name,…

Fascinating video! And deeper exploration for me into this realm.

I’ve been working with a severe stroke patient who doesn’t see things on the left side. Whether in a room or a sheet of paper right in front of them.

Regaining motor functions has been been progressing, yet the ability for them to have visions of their left side is also, like a darkness as they do PT to regain motor skills.

This video is giving me more insights as to how can I integrate connections to their unconscious consciousness into their return to ‘normal’ everyday functions.

I’ve been able to activate, through touch, full sensations and body movements. But, without my physical stimulus of neurons, her ability to activate the muscles fades.

Thank You Pedro for the sharing of this video

Consciousness It Is - LAWG Zoom Gathering 3:30PM January 29th

Based on the responses to the survey I put out, most people would like to talk about consciousness on the Learning as We Go Zoom gathering on January 29th. So, my question for you all is, "What is it about consciousness that you would like to discuss?"

My personal view of consciousness can best be described as "The Witnessing and Wondering Self".

If there are aspects of this topic that you want to share, please do so here. If there are books you've read or articles or videos that you would like us to take a look at before the conversation, please add them to this thread. Also, let me know if there are areas that you would like to reflect on in light of consciousness such as:

  • Parenting

  • Relationships

I would quote spiritual teacher, Rupert Spira on the question of what is consciousness. I think he has a good answer. It is the fundamental awareness that exists beyond thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. It is the essence of our being which remains constant, even when our mental activities are not present. Human experiences are part of consciousness not the not consciousness being part of human experiences.

Awesome. I will post the Zoom link here and it will be in the weekly newsletter.

Bearing Spiritual Fruit

In preparation for this upcoming Sunday's talk, I have been reading Unity teachings, A Course in Miracles, the Bible, and a Testament of Hope, which is the collective works of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. And I'm taking all of this in while looking at our news and seeing things that are so contrary to what I experience as the spiritual reality that is our inheritance. And of course, I am actively grieving my brother's death, which has me looking at the world in a way that I am not yet used to.

The MLK Holiday happens to be the only holiday that I actually look forward to because historically, it is a day that calls us to really look beyond ourselves and to reflect on the world that we are all co-creating. So, I actually take it pretty seriously in the sense that it is a season where…
